Love and Relationships

We all know what love is. I won’t even pretend to know what is right for another person. I’m not even sure that the general rules of romantic relationships actually work for everyone. Each dynamic has its own set of particulars which may not even apply to another persons circumstance.

Foundations

Both love and relationships are the cornerstone of everything we do. There are certainly many different definitions of love. Love can be one of the most intense emotions we can experience, in addition to the confusion and and uncertainty it can entail.

With that being said, love can be experienced in many different aspects. The Greeks defined seven differing states of love. No need to go in to that here. Being an integral part of life, we all know what love is and define it in our own terms.

Our relationships define who we are. Regardless of our paths, friends, family and loved ones are part of our very essence. Those connections help us keep our focus clear and elevate our spirits.

Emotions can make relationships complicated. I know I want to feel like I have been heard, understood and validated.

Relationships can bring us comfort and discomfort, at least that has been my experience. There is emotional complexity which can come with this.

Our personal experience forms the way we think of circumstances and others related to those circumstances. Our connections to others helps maintain our emotions and self worth. Connecting at deeper levels with more than just one person can help us understand who we are, as well as maintain our emotional and mental health.

Many poets have written many ideas about love. Funny how love and relationships predominate so much of pop music.

Because there are so many variants in the definition of love, there is a balancing act in nurture our relationships and pursuing dreams.

Love

I just want to stick with the people who love me and not spend a single second on the rest. The relationships I have with those people and the meaningful things I do really are the only thing that matters. Life is better that way.

Emotions can make relationships complicated. I know I want to feel like I have been heard, understood and validated.

Love embraces so many powerful emotions : fear, hope, pity, joy, and anger

Love is an adventure. To get the right answer as to who you should love requires trying it over and over again. It took me years to figure who the important people in my life should be. Seeking out those relationships, committing to them, being rejected or ignored, then repeating the process.

Rejection is the key to love. In order to be vulnerable we must face the possibility of rejection.

Being vulnerable is like an unexplored frontier. There are mountains and valleys to explore before we reach the serenity of an ocean view. Sometimes that view is fleeting and many times we may have to retrace our footsteps. At other times a flood or an earthquake, or some other sort of catastrophe, has damaged or destroyed love’s foundation. In order to catch that glimpse of the sea can require walking through a alternate path to achieve the vision.

Patience and Kindness

Love is like a house? If there is to be strength it needs a strong foundation. The main components of that foundation are patience and kindness. We all want emotional, physical, spiritual and mental health. Sometimes those things can be fleeting and not granted us by circumstances out of our control.

Relationships can bring us comfort and discomfort. There is emotional complexity which can come with this. Our personal experience forms the way we think of circumstances and others related to those circumstances. Connecting at deeper levels with more than just one person can help us understand who we are.
